Your credit rights...truth-in-lending rules
Banking Center
When you lack the cash, a credit card provides the ability to buy something now and pay for it later. It's important, however, to keep in mind that no matter which kind of credit card you choose, the federal Truth-in-Lending Act requires that lenders provide certain information so that you can compare one loan to another.

Here are some of the most important facts lenders must provide:

  • Finance charges in dollars and as an annual percentage rate (APR)
  • The credit issuer or company providing the credit line and the size of the credit line
  • Length of grace period, if any, before payment must be made
  • Minimum Payment required
  • Annual fees, if applicable
  • Fees for credit insurance, if any, which pays off your loan if you die before the debt is fully repaid
